First, unsolicited sexual content has no place on CMB. In fact, sharing content like that without consent is harassment and a violation of our Community Guidelines. If a match sends you sexual content you didn’t ask for or tries to coerce you into accepting content, please report them immediately. And remember, reporting is always anonymous.
Now, let’s go over a few important reminders about consent. And remember, these apply whether you’re talking on the app, over the phone, or in real life.
Consent requires open communication.
Talking about what you like, what you’re looking for, and what you’re comfortable with is not only key to gaining mutual consent, but key to building a healthy relationship as a whole. The more comfortable you are being honest about your boundaries and desires, the more you can build something happy and safe.
Always ask for someone’s preferences and share yours in return. Don’t be scared to ask for clarification if you’re unsure whether you’re on the same page. And if someone communicates a boundary with you, understand and respect their decision.
Assumptions should never be made.
For consent to be mutual, it has to happen every step of the way. That means you can’t assume someone saying “yes” to an act once grants you consent for that act every time. Also, agreeing to one act doesn’t give a free pass to move forward with similar acts.
Consent requires a clear and enthusiastic agreement – assumptions about someone’s behavior are not enough. Flirting, showing interest, or simply not saying “no” are not consent. Also, if someone seems uncomfortable or is unable to clearly give consent, you should assume you don’t have it and stop any further actions.
Consent can be withdrawn at any time.
Everyone has a right to feel comfortable in their relationships, and that means being able to say “no” at any time, regardless of what you’ve done before or your relationship status. You’re allowed to change your mind, set new boundaries, and stand your ground.
